When do dietetic internships start

Applicants should consider the type of internship, cost, admission criteria, location, number of students accepted, and additional experience dietetic internship directors expect from applicants.

DICAS is an online application system many dietetic internship programs use. The application system allows applicants to upload and submit all application materials in one location and select the specific dietetic internship programs they wish to apply to. Follow these steps to ensure your application is complete prior to submitting. DICAS holds two application periods each year, spring and fall. Application material from one period does not save to the next. It will require additional fees to reapply again.

You should complete this several weeks prior to when you plan to submit your application. A transcript is needed from any institution attended. Dietetic internship directors want to see grades from all degree and DPD courses. For detailed instructions on where to send official transcripts click here.

A verification statement is a form your DPD director fills out verifying that you have met all program and degree requirements from an academy accredited DPD program. The form is mailed to students following completion of the DPD program.

You should keep at least one original signed verification statement as part of their permanent record. A declaration of intent is a form listing all of the courses that a student still needs to complete to fulfill program and degree requirements. This allows the student to begin applying for dietetic internships prior to graduation. Prior to entering grades you received on your transcript, you must first complete the section on colleges attended.

Search the name of your institution s in which you received grades for degree and DPD courses. Once this is complete, you will be able to enter each course and its corresponding grade for each academic term.

All DPD coursework must be entered under the correct semester exactly as it appears on your official transcript. If you repeated a class, you only need to include the higher of the two grades you received from the course. DPD students are encouraged to apply to a DI anywhere in the nation.

They are advised to find a DI that fits their financial, academic and geographic needs. To better assist students, the DPD program at Cal Poly Pomona provides information workshops twice a year to discuss the DI application and decision-making processes.

The department also offers a one-unit course every fall NTR — Dietetic Internship Exploration to provide students with the information needed to successfully pursue a DI. Students are also strongly encouraged to meet individually with the DPD program director and faculty to help them assess their potential to obtain a DI.

Please see the Availability of DI Positions summary. Almost all dietetic internship will be using the online dietetic internship centralized application process DICAS in additional to specific requirements for each dietetic internship.

Dietetic interns rotate among clinical, community, and food service sites in Massachusetts and southern Vermont. This experience provides dietetic interns with the supervised practice experiences necessary to be eligible to sit for the Registration Examination for Registered Dietitians administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Our program provides individualized attention, as interns most often work one-on-one with their preceptors. Prior to the start of the program year, each intern is placed in a field site, gaining experience in a variety of nutritional care, food service management, and community nutrition activities.

In addition, interns meet one-three times per month for seminar and other academic and networking sessions. Several health-care facilities and other organizations cooperate with the University of Massachusetts Amherst to provide the experiences necessary to meet all the required competencies.

Most of the intern's time is spent at the field sites, with only a small portion of time spent at the University itself. Interns are expected to have a reliable vehicle since considerable driving should be expected during the internship.
